In the last issue of PictoScript we began the celebration of the ten year anniversary of PictoColor's iCorrect Photoshop Plug-ins highlighting our first plug-in, iCorrect Professional (now called iCorrect Portrait). This issue's focus is iCorrect EditLab Pro Photoshop Plug-in, first released in February 2002 by Pictographics International, our technology licensing company. The "color engine" behind EditLab Pro is Pictographics' Color Profile Editing technology, a proprietary set of complex color algorithms for editing ICC color management profiles. Now, if that doesn't sound impressive I don't know what does. What Pictographics really did when creating iCorrect EditLab was to "package" this complex technology into a simple to use Photoshop plug-in that made achieving great color simple.

While there have been numerous articles, Photoshop and Lightroom tutorials, and software on correcting color since iCorrect EditLab was introduced it is still the gold standard for simplicity and color accuracy. As Chris Daniels wrote in a Shutterbug review in 2002, "Professional quality color correction and editing made simple is the easiest way to describe the capabilities if iCorrect EditLab."

iCorrect EditLab Pro is Not Complicated
Chris continues;  "Whether working with scans or digital photographs, this plug-in  can assist in automating the image correction process through a simple four-step process. Product Evolution
While we have added many productivity, workflow features and image enhancement technologies (SmartColor, sharpening and noise removal, etc.) to EditLab over the past nine years the fundamental color technology remain the same. "iCorrect EditLab performs an automatic analysis of your image, and walks you through four easy steps to correct the image in order to achieve the desired results."

Four logically arranged tool sets save time and eliminate the frustration Tab 1 – Color Balance: Remove color cast and correct white balance. Tab 2 – Tonal Range:  Set black point, white point and midpoint. Tab 3 - Brightness/Contrast/Saturation: Adjust brightness, contrast, and saturation. Tab 4 – Hue-Selective Edits: Make color corrections on a hue-selective basis for extra precision

iCorrect EditLab Pro consists of four separate tool panels logically arranged from left to right and offer a wizard-like approach to accurate color. The tools are designed in such a way that as you progress from left to right, the tools will not, in fact, cannot affect any of the tools to its left. This alleviates the common frustration of correcting for one thing while throwing off another. With EditLab Pro, one pass trough the tools and you are finished. Plus, each tool has an optional SmartColor button which analyzes the image and sets the correction parameters to initial recommended settings.

Time-Saving Features

SmartColor Technology: Automatically analyzes the image and sets the color correction parameters to initial optimum settings. SmartColor can be used with each tool set independently or collectively as a whole.
Save Custom Settings: Color correction parameters can be saved and applied to other similar images on an individual basis or as an entire batch.
Create ICC Profiles: Color correction parameters can be saved as ICC profiles for color managed workflows. Also, you can edit ICC digital camera and scanner profiles.

Fine Tuning Color with iCorrect EditLab Pro--Learn How

iCorrect EditLab Pro gives you additional tools for fine tuning your work. Its four panel user interface allows you to address independently, color balance, tonal range, brightness/contrast/saturation, and hue-selective edits along with predefined reference or memory colors.
