Happy First Day of Spring 2008,

Welcome to the March 2008 Issue 2 of PictoScript.  This issue features another blog by a well known photographer, Joe Farace Blogs, along with more information on this month's feature product, iCorrect EditLab Pro Plug-in

If you don't have EditLab Pro you can get it at the discounted price or if you have another iCorrect plug-in you qualify for Upgrade pricing.

Do you have a photo you are particularly proud of?  If so, you might want to enter it in the National Photo Awards Contest. PictoColor is a sponsor of NPA and information on NPA is included in this newsletter.

We hope you are finding the new PictoScript format interesting and helpful. The next issue of PictoScript will be published in early April.  Hopefully, the snow in Minnesota will be gone, the grass will be turning green and the golf courses will open.

"This is an old photograph (the beard is long gone) that my wife, Mary, made of me and “Mona Snoopy” when we were attending MacWorld Expo in San Francisco a few years ago. It remains a favorite of mine because it contains lots of hints about who I am and how I work. For example, when people ask what my influences are, I usually point at this photograph and say “The Great Masters.”
Welcome to my latest attempt at blogging. This is my third attempt at the process and unlike the others I’ve promised myself to make a serious attempt to post something here at least once a week."

Joe Farace Original  iCorrect EditLab Pro Correction

Before EditLab

After EditLab's Magic

Color correcting photographs made under difficult lighting conditions can be a challenge. My favorite tool for getting an image’s color to look as natural as possible is PictoColor’s (www.pictocolor.com) iCorrect EditLab Pro 5.5 that’s available as a Photoshop-compatible plug-in or standalone application.
The plug-in’s interface employs a SmartColor Wizard that has four toolsets. As you progress through the tabs from left to right, the tools will not and cannot affect any tools previously applied on the left. This step-by-step process alleviates the frustration of correcting part of the image while throwing off another. After one pass through the tools, you’re finished. You can save custom settings to apply to other, similar images individually or as a batch. The latest version of iCorrect EditLab Pro also offers black and white conversion, sepia toning, and sharpening functions to an updated toolbox.

The above “before and after” examples are an old photograph of me—I still had a beard—made during the PMA show in Orlando. These are the examples I show during my presentation on Photoshop-compatible plug-ins. A single click on Raggedy Ann’s dress produces the result shown to the right of the  original image. When I show this in my workshops, it always produces a audible gasp from the audience. Let me say this again: It only takes a single mouse-click to get from the before to the after photograph.

The Photoshop® Color Correction Standard for 6 Years!

Frustration-Free Color Correction with Professional Results
iCorrect EditLab Pro Plug-in was first introduced in 2002 at version 2.0 by our parent company, Pictographics International. It was based on Pictographics proprietary ICC Color Management  technology that employs complex 3 dimensional non-linear algorithms to Make the Color Right. That's probably more that you wanted to know, but it is what makes PictoColor's color correction technology unique in the industry. When you correct color using an iCorrect product you are, in essence, "fixing the profile" of the picture to make it right. Even though the technology "under the hood" is complex using it is not. "Great Color Made Simple" was the title of one of the first EditLab reviews by Chris Daniels in the November 2002 issue of Shutterbug Magazine.

Version 2.0 was followed by 3.0, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0 and 5.5, the current version. With each new version we added new and enhanced technology and workflow tools, but our primary objective remained the same: Make Professional Color Correction Easy and Fast.

Four Tools in One

iCorrect EditLab Pro consists of four separate tool panels identified by four distinctly numbered tabs.  The four panels are logically arranged from left to right and offer a wizard-like approach to accurate color.  The tools are designed in such a way that as you progress from left to right, the tools will not, and in fact cannot affect any of the tools to its left.  This alleviates the common frustration of correcting for one thing while throwing off another.  With iCorrect EditLab Pro, one pass through the tools and you are finished.  Plus, each tool has an optional SmartColor button which analyzes the image and sets the correction parameters to initial recommended settings.  More
