If you click the SmartColor button, the histogram handles will automatically be set to values that seem appropriate for the image. This will produce good results in most cases, and is quick and easy to do. If the master SmartColor Mode checkbox is checked, this will already have been done. (Note that the SmartColor Preferences settings control whether SmartColor will set the black, gray and white points.)
