inCamera is a digital camera and scanner profiling plug-in for Adobe Photoshop 5 6 7 or CS. With it you can create high quality ICC device profiles for any RGB digital camera or scanner.

Digital camera profiles are made using either the GretagMacbeth ColorChecker® chart, the ColorChecker DC chart or the ColorChecker SG chart. A new profile must be made each time the lighting changes, so when profiling digital cameras, inCamera is best suited for studio photography, where several pictures will be taken under the same lighting setup.

inCamera also creates scanner profiles using the IT8.7/1, IT8.7/2 or HutchColor HCT scanner targets, which are available for most photographic color transparency and print materials. Note that since these targets are not available for color negative films, scanner profiles cannot generally be made for such media. However, the clever photographer can circumvent this limitation in certain situations by using inCamera in a special way — a topic that will be discussed in a later section of this user guide.

An overview of the entire process is:

  1. Select the appropriate chart and reference file.
  2. Capture the chart with your scanner or digital camera.
  3. Open the captured image in Photoshop and use inCamera to make the ICC profile.
  4. Use this ICC profile by assigning it to other images that were captured on the same device and in the same manner as the chart image.
