When working with ICC profiles in Photoshop, it is critical that Photoshop is first set up properly. Here is a recommended setup for Photoshop's Color Settings dialog:

Dialog items of particular interest:

  1. Select a normal RGB working space, such as Adobe RGB (1998) or sRGB. Do not select your monitor profile!
  2. In order to facilitate subsequent color editing, conversion into the RGB working space is recommended.
  3. If an image from your camera or scanner has an embedded profile — but the wrong one — this will give you the chance to discard the unwanted profile.
  4. If an image from your camera or scanner does not have an embedded profile, this will give you the chance to assign your custom input profile.
